- Can the E-Sphere® Stool DNA Extraction Kit be used to extract human DNA?
E-Sphere® Stool DNA Extraction Kit will extract DNA from all cells within a stool sample. Testing of E-Sphere® Stool DNA Extraction Kit for extraction of human DNA has not yet been completed; however human DNA should be present in the extracted DNA.
- Can the E-Sphere® Stool DNA Extraction Kit extract RNA?
E-Sphere® Stool DNA Extraction Kit is designed to extract DNA from stool samples. Preliminary work has been conducted assessing E-Sphere® Stool DNA Extraction Kit for use in RNA extraction from stool. These preliminary data show that RNA can be extracted using this kit, with comparable sensitivity to other RNA extraction methods. Additional testing is underway to explore RNA extraction using this kit and additional work will begin in 2011 to develop a kit for total nucleic acid extraction.
- Can the E-Sphere® Stool DNA Extraction Kit be used to extract sample types other than stool?
E-Sphere® Stool DNA Extraction Kit is designed specifically to extract DNA from bulk stool samples. Preliminary data shows that stool swabs and water samples are compatible with this kit. Additional work will be conducted to adapt the E-Sphere®
Process to other sample types, including sputum and tissue.
- Can the E-Sphere® Stool DNA Extraction Kit be automated?
E-Sphere® Stool DNA Extraction Kit is designed to be easy to use and rapid, proving to be as fast and simple as some automated system protocols for stool extraction. Additional improvements to the kit will be explored, including methods to further reduce hands-on and procedural times, as well as high throughput extraction.
