Research Technician

Linh Nguyen’s journey from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to Phthisis Diagnostics took her first to a boarding school in Connecticut where two years of immersion helped her to acclimate to the new country and culture.  After completing high school, she attended the University of Virginia, majoring in Biomedical Engineering since she was especially drawn to applied science in the fields of medicine and engineering.

Before receiving her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering in 2009, Ms. Nguyen came to Phthisis Diagnostics as an intern in her second year and is delighted that she was able to become part of the team after she graduated.  Today, she leads projects in nucleic acid extractions and synthetic molecular standards and assists other scientists with their projects as needed.

Ms. Nguyen’s long term goals are to attend graduate school to become a Research and Development Engineer in the biotechnology industry.  For now, she is enjoying the variety of her work, in the lab and beyond.  Among her other responsibilities, she reviews documents and tracks Standard Operating Procedures to minimize risk and assure quality control.  She acknowledges “it is a challenge to wear so many hats,” but appreciates the experience and perspective she gains.

She enjoys running and loves to travel everywhere.
